Revealing Marie-Antoinette
What do we really know of Marie-Antoinette? Continuing our series of events for Women's History Month, Dr Helen Jacobsen and Professor Catriona Seth will discuss the life and patronage of the ill-fated French queen. Join them as they explore the many pieces of fine and decorative art linked to Marie-Antoinette in the Wallace Collection, and try to piece together a glimpse of the private woman behind the celebrity image.
Professor Catriona Seth is the Marshal Foch Professor of French Literature at the University of Oxford. She has published several books on Marie-Antoinette, most recently a volume of the queen's letters. Dr Helen Jacobsen is the Curator of French 18th-century Decorative Arts at the Wallace Collection and editor of the recent life of Jean-Henri Riesener, Marie-Antoinette's favourite cabinetmaker.
