Mechanism of Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Tutorial
http://www.anatomyandphysiologyquizzes.net/
In this video I give a tutorial about the mechanism of Botulinum Toxin (Botox).
We go over the reaction in the nerve terminals with acetylcholine and how botox prevents the release of synaptic vesicles with acetlycholine from being released into the synaptic cleft.
Also, we review the symptoms of botulinum toxin, as well as various methods botox can be used for medical purposes.
Symptoms:
Difficulty breathing & slurred speech
Difficulty swallowing and muscle weakness
Dry Mouth
Double or Blurred Vision
Drooping eyelids
Vomiting
Uses: Local Injections leading to muscle paralysis
Good for: blepharospasm (excessive blinking)
cervical dystonia (neurological movement disorder)
strabismus (eyes not aligned properly)
achalasia (failure of lower oesophageal sphincter to relax)
wrinkles (cosmetic)
hyperhydrosis (topically targettng muscurinic receptors)
Ok, so I hope that you enjoyed my tutorial on the mechanisms of botulinum toxin (botox).
