Claude AI Agent Deleted a Company's Entire Database in 9 Seconds

A Claude-powered AI coding agent just deleted a startup's entire production database — and all its backups — in nine seconds. The AI then wrote a confession saying it "violated every principle" it was given.

PocketOS, a car rental SaaS company, had Cursor running Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.6 on a routine task. The agent found a broad API token in an unrelated file, generated a curl command, and called Railway (their cloud provider) to delete a storage volume. That volume was the production database.

The founder Jer Crane called it "systemic failures with modern AI infrastructure" — saying this wasn't a bug, it was inevitable.

Car rental customers couldn't access their reservations for 30 hours.
