2022-08-21 Xiao Qi Ji ~ Happy 2nd Birthday to Our Two-riffic Cubbie!

#PandaStory: This story began 2 years ago as documented by the Smithsonian National Zoo ~ the miraculous event, the birth of Xiao Qi Ji!

Early this morning, like most mornings, Mei Xiang bleated which typically wakes up her sleeping cubbie. Then she approaches and gives him nuzzles and nips.

Later outdoors Qi Ji plucks a red Jolly Ball from his tree! He awaited his festivities in yard 1. Here's a link to the Zoo's blog that describes his gorgeous cake which he thoroughly enjoyed by himself initially, after which he went and took a nap in the hammock!

Then they let Mei Xiang into the yard and that seemed to rouse him from his slumber. He watched her for awhile from the hammock before joining her to demolish more of his cake, and play with his new red Jolly Ball.

After taking his morning nap, he engaged Mei Xiang in multiple play bouts, and toward the end it appeared Mei was ready for them to be over. But our relentless cub kept coming back to her, over and over again. (Even after the end of this video he tried again!).
