Battle for New York : The Invasion Begins - Washington Defends at Brooklyn Heights

In August 1776, American General George Washington would face off against British Commander-in-Chief William Howe.

Fresh off his victory in Boston, Washington hoped to achieve a quick victory and bring the war to a speedy end. However, General Howe had other plans.

Howe and his 30,000 troops landed in Long Island and began their march towards Washington's position on Manhattan. The battle that followed was fierce.

Washington and his troops came mere hours away from complete annihilation but thanks to a brilliant and speedy escape, the American army was saved and the Revolution was able to live on.
