BUSHWICK OPEN STUDIOS 2016

James Kalm has been covering this creative neighborhood in print since 2003, and it provided your correspondent with a backdrop for many of his earliest YouTube videos beginning in 2006. Since then, viewers have been invited to come along, not only to art exhibitions and performances, but to witness the evolution and change of the district itself. Despite the pressure artists and all New Yorkers are feeling from out of control development, we’re back in the “wick” with a strolling visit to the 2016 iteration of Bushwick Open Studios. This event, celebrating its ten year anniversary, exposes what has been called the biggest arts community in the USA (maybe the world). The opening exhibition was accompanied with a book signing for the major publication of “Making History Buswhick” with Cibele Vieira as Project Manager. Encompassing over 400 galleries, studios, performances and other venues, this program can only capture a smidgen of works and performances on view, so it’s hopped that viewers will appreciate this taste of Bushwick 2016.
