After his daughter was killed by Nazis, an old Hungarian shepherd decides in his grief to save as many Jewish lives as possible. In one of the clearings, he finds a woman with a gunshot wound, who he takes with him to potentially save her life. The shepherd is faced with the hardest decision of his life: to save the life of the Jewish family he is hiding in the stables, the wounded girl, or himself against the German soldiers for his crimes.
