After the Dragon: Asias/Africas in New York Speaker Series

Asian Street Style is a conversation between Megha Sharma Sehdev, Terrence Kim, and Daisy Wang about fashion, “street style,” and “Asian” textiles and aesthetics.

Speakers:
Megha Sharma Sehdev is an anthropologist and philosopher who works with the sensory qualities of textiles in the lives of women who have suffered violence and other forms of bodily numbing. Her work incorporates stimuli from a range of fields including legal studies, aesthetics, South Asian history, feminist ethnography, photography, and process philosophy.

Terrence Kim is the CEO of Seoul-based fashion brand IISE, which he co-founded with his brother. IISE, which translates to “2nd generation,” is dedicated to creating products with a distinct interpretation of both modern and traditional Korean culture. Each piece is made in Seoul, utilizing a combination of local fabrics, techniques, and a mix of Korean design aesthetics.

Daisy Wang is the founder and designer of New York-based fashion brand DAWANG. Wang was born in China and studied fashion at Parsons the New School of Design. Having absorbed aesthetics from both American and Chinese cultures, Wang meticulously joins traditional chinoiserie apparel and Chinese fabrics with Western tailoring techniques and trends.
