I am Dr. Bogdan Ivanescu, and my goal is to seek the truth behind the myths we have come to believe: that warty frogs cause warts to appear or that we will lose antibiotics in three to four decades.

I promise to address both myths, but today I want to tell you a bit about how antibiotics actually work!

You will see that we are dealing with a universe of modes of attack and, equally, with a universe of ways in which pathogens respond!

First of all, when I say pathogens, what do you think I am referring to? Parasites, bacteria, or viruses?

I ask this question to demonstrate to those who do not know that taking antibiotics for a viral infection is profoundly useless and only teaches the bacteria in the body what an antibiotic looks like.

Viruses are not alive, and the antibiotic is anti-bios, meaning anti-life. So, antibiotics kill only bacteria and some parasites.

But I promised that we would enjoy together how synthetic chemicals revive us if we have a bacterial infection.

Firstly, penicillin, discovered by Alexander Fleming, prevents bacteria from forming their cell walls, meaning their insides spill out and they die.

The second version is where our antibiotic throws a wrench into the bacterial protein synthesis mechanism. The mechanism starts to fail, and the bacteria wither and die.

The third mechanism is impressive: the antibiotic disrupts RNA polymerase, and bacterial genes can no longer be produced because the bacterial DNA is thrown off balance. It is like producing cancer inside the bacteria.

The penultimate mode of action of antibiotics is to damage the bacterial walls. Not by breaking them, but by painting over the windows, blocking the chimneys, and so on until the bacteria suffocate.

And the final method is to block the synthesis and use of vitamin B9, folic acid, causing the bacteria to collapse.
