Caitlin Moran, "How to be Famous"
Caitlin Moran discusses her book, "How to be Famous" at Politics and Prose at the Wharf on 7/10/18.
Moran was named Columnist of the Year by the British Press Awards in 2010 and Critic and Interviewer of the Year in 2011 for her work in the Times of London. As she proved with How to Build a Girl, she’s equally skilled as a novelist. Her second work of fiction follows Johanna Morrigan, aka Dolly Wilde, already a successful music writer at age eighteen. But John, her best friend and crush, is even more successful. To one-up him—and ultimately to win him—she launches a monthly column analyzing fame. Filled with Moran’s hilarious and pointed social critiques, the venture puts Johanna in the public eye, but once there, she’s vulnerable to the downside of fame when an unfortunate moment of her own is exposed.
