How to deal with loneliness when you get older
How to deal with loneliness when you get older
This younger and older LGBTI person talking together about loneliness is so revealing.
Produced by Gay Star News in partnership with Age UK, Bradley Birkholz, a YouTuber and activist Peter Scott-Presland discuss their experiences of family and loneliness.
Aging is something many people fear, with misconceptions, myths, and misunderstanding – rife.
In this video Peter helps Bradley unpack fears of getting older, including being lonely.
They discuss the value and importance of the chosen family, sometimes known as the urban family or family of choice. It's something many LGBTI people do when traditional or biological family relationships break down.
Essentially, the chosen family is a family of friends you chose to create the same sense of security people lean on their families for. It's not something unique to the LGBTI community, but one we have embraced more than many others.
Peter gives Bradley advice on finding a chosen family, asking for help for things you used to be able to do on your own and feeling lonely.

So join us, and send this video to them and let them know you are thinking about them. Then ask them to pass on the message, you are not alone. Let's see how long it takes to get back to you.
