Dementors and depression

🪄 Fiction often carries emotional truths that are too heavy to hold in their original form.

In the Harry Potter series, the Dementors are widely understood as a representation of depression, shaped from lived experience into something visible and confrontable within the story. That creative choice turns an internal struggle into a force that can be named, recognized, and resisted.

At the same time, themes of grief run deeply through Harry’s journey, especially his connection to the loss of his parents. Those emotional threads mirror the way personal grief can sit beneath creative work, shaping tone, meaning, and character development without being directly explained.

What emerges is a narrative where loss and love are not abstract ideas, but driving forces that shape how characters endure and choose to act.
