A case study of poverty in India involves looking at specific examples of how it affects individuals and families, alongside national data trends. While official statistics show a significant drop in extreme poverty, real-world case studies, such as that of Ramsaran, a daily wage laborer, illustrate the persistent challenges of urban poverty, like low income, lack of regular work, and insufficient access to essentials like housing, education, and healthcare. Other case studies focus on rural poverty and the effectiveness of programs like  (SHGs). Research has explored whether women's empowerment, particularly when they have control over their own organizations, is a key factor in the success of these programs. Studies have examined the impact of SHGs on poverty eradication.
