Malta Air (Ryanair) Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 Milan Bergamo to Liverpool | Full Flight
Having flown on a considerable amount of A320NEO's now, I needed to get on a Boeing 737 MAX. The Ryanair group introduced the MAX in June of this year, and when looking through Ryanair's black Friday sale, I noticed this flight to Liverpool from Bergamo for just under 5 euros, so I jumped on it.
Having arrived in Bergamo around 3 hours before departure, I went for a short walk around before heading back into the airport. BGY is an interesting airport and feels far more like a shopping centre. The airport was busy but the whole departure experience was pleasant. My aircraft for the evening was actually the newest aircraft in the Malta Air fleet, 9H-VUQ only entered service on the 16th of November. Upon boarding it still had an evident new plane smell that I'd not noticed since flying on EI-GXJ on its first day of operations. We boarded and I settled into the seat on time. It was interesting to see and hear the aircraft named as a 737 8-200, the captain even just referred to it as a Boeing 737-800 series aircraft. We pushed back, started up and departed, with some amazing sounds from the LEAP-1B and brilliant views along the way, after some rough turbulence over the alps, we reached 41,000 feet where I ended up falling asleep for the majority of the flight, I woke up as we were beginning our initial descent into Liverpool. We made a gusty approach and landing on Runway 27 and parked on stand around 10 minutes late.
Overall, the Boeing 737 MAX is an absolutely fantastic aircraft, it looks and sounds amazing, the cabin is quiet with a lower cabin altitude than older 737s. This combined with the comfortable Boeing Sky Interior allowed for about 90 minutes of decent sleep. I very rarely sleep on planes but I woke up feeling fairly refreshed. The whole departure and arrival experiences were decent and the crew on board were great. I had been planning to get Lasagne on this flight, as it felt fitting, but unfortunately they had sold out. This was to be expected as this sector to Liverpool was one of 8 sectors for that aircraft on that day.
The 737 MAX is an absolutely brilliant aircraft to fly on, and I would recommend it to anyone. This is definitely one of my best flight experiences made better by it being one of the rarer MAX 8-200 variants, and the newest aircraft in the fleet at that!
