What types of residence permits are there in Turkey?

There are several types of residence permits for foreign nationals in Turkey, each of which is intended for specific purposes and grounds.

☝️ Short-term residence permit (Turkish: Kısa Dönem İkamet İzni) is issued on several grounds:

1️⃣🏠Purchase of property: Foreigners who have purchased property in Turkey and their families, including children under 18 years of age, can obtain a residence permit for 1 or 2 years with the possibility of extension. After 5 years of residence in Turkey with this type of residence permit and fulfilment of other additional conditions, the property owner can apply for Turkish citizenship.👏

For staying in the country beyond the visa-free period. Grounds: rental property or long reservations in hotels for holidays, travelling and getting to know the culture of the country. 🇹🇷

Entrepreneurs who plan to create jobs in Turkey and invest in its economy may be eligible for a residence permit.

4️⃣📚Participation in educational programmes: Short-term courses, seminars or language schools.

5️⃣🏥Medical treatment: For long-term treatment in medical centres in Turkey. The residence permit is issued on the basis of an invitation from a medical centre and the patient must not have any dangerous infectious diseases.

6️⃣👨‍🔬 Participation in exchange programmes and scientific research. Issued on the basis of agreements between countries.
