"Indonesia's Blue Volcano: The Truth Behind Kawah Ijen's Mysterious Lava"

In Indonesia, there is a volcano called Kawah Ijen that appears to spew blue lava, but there's a fascinating explanation behind it.
Here's what's really happening:

The "blue lava" isn't actual blue molten rock.

Kawah Ijen contains large deposits of sulfur, and it emits sulfuric gases at high temperatures—sometimes over 600°C (1,112°F).

When these gases escape from cracks in the volcano and ignite on contact with the air, they burn with an electric-blue flame.

At night, this blue fire creates the illusion of blue lava flowing down the slopes.

The effect is especially visible in the dark, making Kawah Ijen a popular spot for night-time treks.

So while it’s not technically “blue lava,” the burning sulfur creates one of the most otherworldly natural sights on Earth.
