The giant panda Sheng Yi is the third baby born to Chinese pandas 'Xing Xing' and 'Liang Liang' in Malaysia. She was born on May 31, 2021 - the exact day marking the 47th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia.
On March 24, 2023, the Malaysia National Zoo announced that they would be sending their two Malaysia-born panda cubs, 'Yi Yi' and 'Sheng Yi,' back to China in May.
On the morning of August 29, 2023, a farewell ceremony for giant pandas 'Yi Yi' and 'Sheng Yi' was held at the Giant Panda Conservation Center in the Malaysia National Zoo. The two pandas flew back to Chengdu, China that same evening.
