Power Carving a Large Walnut Bowl/Tray

I wanted to get more practice power carving and decided this large piece of walnut would be the perfect opportunity. This is my third power carving project, and it's also the largest amount of material I've removed so far. I find power carving to be a very satisfying process, and the Kutzall shaping dish is a nice product to use.

At the beginning of the process, I had a different vision for this piece of wood. However, as I progressed further, I changed my mind because I wanted to retain a specific area of interesting-looking wood in the finished product. I love to stay flexible when woodworking, and power carving is no exception. I really love the end result of this, and I had a lot of fun making the large bowl/tray.

Going forward, I really want to try the coarse or medium version of this style of dish to see if it leaves smaller/shallower scratches on the wood surface. I love the practice and look forward to more power carving projects in the future.
