Examining Halo: Reach's Beautifully Bleak Ending

Halo Reach, Bungie's last game in the Halo series available on both Xbox and PC, ends its campaign with the mission Lone Wolf - and the end of Reach and Noble Six's story is brutal and bleak and brilliant.

Lone Wolf may not tell a happy tale, but thematically it works beautifully within the context of Halo Reach and the story of Noble Team, and the decision for Bungie to hand over control to players during Noble Six’s last stand is frankly genius and shows Halo at its very best.

In this video, I analyse everything from Lone Wolf's level design and gameplay to its story, setting and atmosphere, to try and explain why Halo Reach's final mission is such a unique experience, while also drawing comparisons to Winter Contingency, Long Night Of Solace, Exodus, Pillar of Autumn and many other missions in Halo Reach's campaign.
