The Hike That Almost KILLED ME! Exploring Hot Springs (RVing in Arkansas)

We had an amazing time exploring Hot Springs, Arkansas... until we tried to climb a mountain... but let's get back to that...

We are camping at Gulpha Gorge Campground in Hot Springs National Park. This campground is beautiful and we were lucky enough to get a spot backing up to the creek... it is so peaceful that we didn't think we would leave. But we wanted to get out and explore the town, so we hopped on the scooter for a ride.

We walk on the opposite side from Bath House Row and decide to go grab some lunch. In speaking to some locals, we ended up spliting a huge burger at Brick House Market... it was so good! Now onto exploring our first National Park!

What is so neat about Hot Springs is that there are fountains everywhere! Some are natural forming waterfalls and pools and some are faucets where you can collect the spring water for drinking. We did not bring our own water bottle, but no fear, the gift shop had one! While we were there we also purchased our National Parks Passport to collect the stamps for our future adventures.

Each of the bath houses are different. Two are still operational as bath houses, one private (meaning individual treatment rooms) and one public (think big hot tubs). But the rest have been transformed. Two are NP buildings and you don't want to miss Forsythe which is a time capsule of what the bath houses were like back in the day! The most interesting is Superior, which is now a brewery. It is the only brewery located inside a National Park AND it makes the beer from the hot springs!

Now, about that hike... we decided we would hike up to the mountaintop observatory. We found the trail which was a little over a half of a mile... but is marked as moderate to strenuous... I should have listened to the sign but was feeling adventureous! I thought I was going to die... and Jason was afraid he would have to carry me back down... did we make it? Were the views worth the climb?

We LOVED Hot Springs and the beautiful campsite we had and we most definitely will be back!
