A simple exercise you can do to start to notice the connection between your breath and your mind and body, is to gradually slow your breath.

Start by observing the current speed of your breath. Count the length of the inhale, and count the length of the exhale. If they are not balanced, the next step is to make the inhale and exhale the same length.

Then slow the rate of your breath by just one count.

After a few breaths, when you are comfortable breathing at this speed, slow your breath by one more count.

Continue this process until you enter a state of deep calm, or experience mild discomfort due to reaching the limits of your breathing capacity.

If you practice this exercise regularly, you will be able to breathe slower and slower, and get calmer and calmer.

Don’t go slower than a count of 12 though.
