Are You Climate Ready?

You may have heard the adage: “the greenest building is the one that already exists.” Maintaining an existing home conserves resources, reduces the need for new products, and keeps irreplaceable materials out of the landfill. Join Dr. Jenny Hay from the Office of Historic Preservation to learn more about the City’s development of a Climate Heritage Strategic Plan, plus representatives from SAWS for tips on how landscaping can reduce operational energy and water usage while showcasing the features of your older or historic property.

About the presenters:
Dr. Jenny Hay is the ScoutSA Manager at the Office of Historic Preservation. Prior to joining OHP, she worked for the Department of the Interior responding to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and studied community resilience in coastal communities. Her background in geography and anthropology fuels her interest in the intersection of cultural heritage and climate action.

Gail Dugelby is a SAWS conservation consultant with deep roots in San Antonio and the Hill Country. She spent her youth climbing trees, playing in the Guadalupe River, and exploring the outdoors. This drives her passion for nature and our diverse environment, especially our most precious natural resource — water. Given the choice, she would be outside all the time.

Juan Soulas is a senior conservation planner for San Antonio Water System. Since joining SAWS in 2007 his duties have focused on residential water use. He works with his Conservation colleagues to help customers find ways to reduce outdoor usage without compromising the health and aesthetic quality of their landscapes.
