The KURHAUS

The Kurhaus is an iconic building on the boulevard of Scheveningen. The history of the Kurhaus begins in 1818, when Jacob Pronk, an enterprising resident of Scheveningen, decided to found a pavilion, the interior of which - four rooms, equipped with bathtubs that could be filled with either cold or hot water - connected with the seawater and air cures in vogue at that time. Pronk owned two bathing carriages with which interested parties could ride into the sea without being seen, and then carefully slide into the water.
