Are we over-digitizing our youngest learners?

Fairfax County: A growing concern is emerging among parents regarding the integration of one-to-one device policies in elementary schools. While tech literacy is vital, there is a distinct difference between learning with technology and allowing screen-based programs to replace direct instruction. Research consistently emphasizes that young children learn best through active engagement with teachers, not solitary work on digital platforms. Despite significant financial investments in these programs, data has not shown improvements in key areas like third-grade reading proficiency. By prioritizing human-centered education and reallocating resources to support teachers, schools could foster healthier, more effective learning environments that support both student development and educator well-being.
