How Japan's FAKE Food Samples Are Made
In Japan, food samples are an essential part of the restaurant industry. Visit almost any store and in the front window, you will see what appear to be freshly made meals, proudly displayed in a glass cabinet like trophies.
Known as Shokuhin Sanpuru (食品サンプル) in Japanese, these incredibly realistic models are designed to give potential customers the most visually authentic experience of the food without ordering it.
As with many Japanese crafts, Food Samples are made by masters of this deceptively delicious art and we were lucky enough to go behind the scenes at Iwasaki Replica Foods in Osaka.
In this video, you'll learn how to make 3 different types of popular sample dishes; Tempura Shrimp (海老天), Zarusoba Noodles (ざるそば), and Yakitori Grilled Chicken (焼き鳥).
