The Boy Who Sees The World Upside Down - Mahendra Ahirwar

SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/1dKbiT4

This 13-year-old boy was left an outcast in his village in India because his head hung upside down but he risked his life in a first-of-its-kind surgery to straighten his neck. Mahendra Ahirwar suffered from a rare condition called congenital myopathy which made his muscles in his neck so weak his head would hang at a 180-degree angle. His parents Mukesh Ahirwar, 41, and mother Sumitra Ahirwar, 36, from Madhya Pradesh, in central India, spent years taking him to see doctors but no one could help.
But spine surgeon Dr Rajagopalan Krishnan, from Apollo Hospital, in Delhi, heard of his plight and got in touch. Within months surgery was set up and in February 2016 Mahendra survived the ten-hour operation. Mahendra spent two weeks in hospital before he had to eventually make the arduous journey home to his village, where all his family and community awaited him.
