AZ-900 Lesson 14 – Governance Tools
AZ-900 Lesson 14 – Governance Tools: Management Groups, Policy, Blueprints, Tags
In this lesson of the AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals series, we continue the Management, Governance & Security playlist by focusing on governance tools in Azure.
We cover:
- The Azure governance hierarchy (management groups, subscriptions, resource groups, resources)
- Tags for organization, reporting, and cost allocation
- Azure Policy for enforcing rules and assessing compliance
- Azure Blueprints for deploying standardized, governed environments
In this video, you will learn:
- How management groups, subscriptions, resource groups, and resources fit together in the Azure hierarchy
- How tags (key-value pairs) help you classify resources by environment, department, cost center, owner, and more
- How Azure Policy uses policy definitions, initiatives, and effects (Deny, Audit, Append, DeployIfNotExists) to keep your environment compliant with standards
- How Azure Blueprints can bundle policies, role assignments, and templates to roll out consistent environments across subscriptions
We also walk through a governance-at-scale example where:
- Management groups apply shared policies and RBAC to multiple subscriptions
- Blueprints deploy standard resource group structures and baseline policies
- Tags are required on all resources to support Azure Cost Management and reporting
And we connect everything to AZ-900 exam scenarios:
- “Organize and govern multiple subscriptions together” → Management groups
- “Group related resources by lifecycle” → Resource groups
- “Classify resources by department or environment for cost reporting” → Tags
- “Enforce allowed locations, required tags, or security rules” → Azure Policy
- “Deploy standardized, governed environments repeatedly” → Azure Blueprints
This lesson is:
- Exam-oriented, aligned with the AZ-900 objectives around governance and compliance
- Beginner-friendly, using clear explanations and simple examples
- Practical, showing how governance tools are used in real organizations
🔹 After watching this video, you will be able to:
- Describe the Azure governance hierarchy and where to apply policies
- Explain how tags, policies, and blueprints support governance at scale
- Map typical governance requirements to the correct Azure features in AZ-900 questions
👉 This video is part of a complete AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals playlist, designed to help you pass the certification with confidence using pragmatic, no-fluff lessons.
If this lesson helps you, please like, subscribe, and continue to the next videos where we cover monitoring & management (Azure Monitor, Advisor, Portal, CLI) to complete your AZ-900 preparation. 💡
