In a sharp escalation along the Line of Control, intense Pakistani shelling has sparked widespread panic across several border villages in Jammu and Kashmir, forcing residents to flee their homes and seek shelter in safer areas. The worst-hit was Poonch town, where artillery shells struck residential and government buildings, killing at least 16 civilians and injuring 40 others. Shelling was also reported in Rajouri’s Laam, Manjakote, and Gambhir Brahmana, as well as Kashmir’s Uri and Tangdhar sectors, shattering the fragile calm restored by the 2021 ceasefire agreement. While locals in Uri reported late-night bombardments targeting civilian areas and Indian positions authorities have placed the region on high alert amid growing fears of a wider conflict.
