Yacht Trace Self Install Barcelona Post Palma Yacht Show. Why We Don’t Use AIS
Another insurance approved Yacht Trace Tender Monitoring system self install Barcelona this week ⚓ No AIS!
Dr. Dan Rogers popped in to see the Superyacht captain and crew and oversea the self install whilst in Barcelona. In less than an hour it was good to go.
One thing we often explain to Captains and Engineers is why we deliberately chose not to rely on AIS for tender protection.
AIS has its place for navigation and collision avoidance — but tender monitoring is a completely different requirement. MCA guidance is also clear that AIS should be switched off when a tender is under tow or onboard, helping avoid unnecessary AIS transmissions, collision alarm nuisance, and network saturation.
👉For more info see my latest article (published yesterday) Dockwalk. https://lnkd.in/dQbWBwKg
That’s why we designed Yacht Trace as a completely standalone monitoring system focused purely on protecting the tender and providing fast pre-emptive alerts without depending on external infrastructure or interacting with existing onboard systems.
Yacht Trace is:
• Fully standalone
• Transportable between tenders
• Non-invasive with simple installation
• Independent of the yacht’s existing systems
• Using proprietary RF communications rather than AIS or cellular (Iridium back up for theft)
• Designed for real operational use, not gimmicks or unnecessary complexity
We also believe sustainability matters in yachting technology. A portable system that can move with the tender, without cutting into consoles or major rewiring, helps preserve warranties, reduces waste, and keeps installation practical for crews and shipyards alike.
Simple, reliable, and built to do one job properly.
Great to see another system heading into operation for the Med season.
