Don't Forget About Pacing

💬 Comment PACING and share what’s your Paddle Erg 4-minute goal?

A coach asked a group of paddlers their target before a four-minute erg piece. The answers ranged from 800 meters to 5k to a million meters. The results? Everyone landed in roughly the same range between 800 and 900+. These athletes knew roughly what to expect from themselves. Newer athletes might have no idea what they can output.

That's not a fitness gap. That's a pacing gap. And if your training time is already limited, you cannot afford to leave seconds on the board because the plan wasn't there before you sat down. Get practice sessions in, start knowing roughly what your splits would be, and go into the test having a general idea what your target would be.

THE PACING PROBLEM
❌ Going out too hard means dying in the back half
❌ Going out too easy means finishing with gas left
❌ No target split means your score is a guess, not a test

THE FIX
✅ A target split turns the erg into a precision tool, not a survival session
✅ The paddlers who knew their number hit it, because pacing is a decision
✅ Limited training time means every piece has to count

📌 Save this for before your next piece
