ABOUT CHARLES L. BENNETT MD PHD MPP
Charles L. Bennett MD PhD MPP is the Frank P. and Jose M. Fletcher Chair of Medication Safety and Efficacy at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy and an Affiliate Investigator with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Drug Access and Affordability Initiative.
Dr. Bennett is one of the nation’s foremost experts in pharmaceutical safety research and adverse drug reactions. He leads SONAR - the Southern Network on Adverse Reactions - a nationally recognized pharmaceutical watchdog program that partners closely with members of the Floxie community.

Dr. Bennett was the sole plaintiff in U.S. ex rel. Bennett v. Bayer Corporation, a landmark case involving allegations that pharmaceutical manufacturers failed to fully disclose safety data related to permanent neurological and psychiatric toxicity associated with fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

His research contributed to FDA safety actions and international regulatory reviews involving fluoroquinolone toxicity in the United States, Canada, the European Union, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Bennett has led more than $25 million in peer-reviewed research funding and has published more than 500 peer-reviewed manuscripts, including publications in The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, JAMA, and Health Affairs.
