Precision Calibrating of FRP Fiber Reinforced Plastics Panels with KUNDIG Sliding Table Sander

This is such an exciting project and it’s fair to say it was also quite a complex one. Definitely something most of us don’t see everyday. The main difference to a regular wide belt sander is quite obvious: Instead of a feed belt that is circulating around the machine table, this machine has a sliding table that reciprocates forth and back through the machine. But why? There is actually a multitude of advantages but let’s name the two most prominent ones:
1. Application example number one: Much higher vacuum performance can be achieved which helps a lot when dealing with the forces generated when planing/calibrating of rigid foam material with extreme stock removal of up to 20 mm per pass. (See this video: https://youtu.be/CkjPU9qeYlk )
2. Application example number two: Due to not having a rubber feed carpet (which are naturally prone to compress under high vacuum forces and work piece weights), even smaller tolerances can be achieved when precision calibrating materials like the fiber reinforced panels (FRP) shown in the video.
