Coronavirus: Ontario Premier Ford considering new restrictions for Toronto, Peel and York | FULL
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Wednesday that the provincial government will be considering new restrictions for Toronto, Peel Region and York Region amid high coronavirus rates in those areas.
“We continue [to see] extremely, extremely troubling numbers in Peel, Toronto, and York Region,” Ford said during the press conference.
“The virus is spreading at an alarming rate in these areas," he added, calling the situation "extremely serious."
Ford said there will be an announcement on Friday regarding possible additional restrictions.
Toronto, Peel Region and York Region are currently in the red zone of the province’s coronavirus response framework, which is one level away from a lockdown.
The province reported 1,417 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the provincial total to 98,162. This is the 13th consecutive day that daily case counts have been above 1,000.
