September 8th, 2012. The undefeated Andre “S.O.G” Ward defended his WBA & WBC World Super Middleweight Titles against 2-8-1 betting underdog “Bad” Chad Dawson who fought at 168 pounds for the first time in over 6 years. Both Ward and Dawson were respectively ranked the No. 5 & No. 10 Best P4P Fighters by Ring Magazine at this time.

Interestingly, Ward is a left hander fighting right handed while Dawson is a right hander who fights left handed.

Prefight records; Ward 25(13)-0, Dawson 31(17)-1.

Entering the contest, the challenger Chad Dawson was the reigning WBC Light Heavyweight Champion who had defeated commendable oppositions such as Adrian Diaconu, Carl Daniels, Tomasz Adamek, Bernard Hopkins, Antonio Tarver (2x) & Glen Johnson (2x).

On the other hand, Ward had notable wins over Arthur Abraham, Edison Miranda, Sakio Bika, Mikkel Kessler & Carl Froch.

Both fighters were mostly feeling each other out in the opening round before opening up in the 2nd but Dawson was just slightly more effective.

6 minutes into the bout, Ward found his rhythm and began to largely outwork Dawson; flooring him in rounds 3 and 4 with pinpoint left hooks.

S.O.G continued to dominate a bewildered Dawson who simply had no answers to the impeccable skills and ring intelligence of one of the craftiest fighters of the sport.

In the 10th, Ward shook the challenger with a 3 punch combination followed by a volley of shots that sent him to the canvas for the 3rd time. Although he beat the count, a visibly disheartened Dawson made it clear to referee Steve Smoger he had no desire to continue.

To his credit, Bad Chad did manage to connect with a couple of clean shots to the chin especially in the early goings.

At the time of the stoppage, Ward was ahead 90-79 & 89-80 (2x) in the scorecards.
