(2019) Rising Salaries for English Teachers in China - due to visa laws

Salaries in China for English teachers are rising at a fast rate. This is especially the case in cities like Shenzhen, where teachers from non-native English-speaking countries can't make their status legal. Many teachers in Shenzhen from Africa, Ukraine and Russia are leaving Shenzhen due to the fact that an increasing number of foreigners are being arrested and fined (and sometimes deported) for working illegally in China. This has resulted in a rather straightforward application of the law of supply and demand: the number of teachers has gone down while the demand for them has stayed the same. The result is that if you have a passport from a native-English speaking country your bargaining power has increased substantially. I have seen salary increases across the board.
