Building A Solid Garden Gate Using Mortice And Tenon Joinery Pegged and Wedged and Built To Last
Building A Solid Garden Gate Using Mortice And Tenon Joinery Pegged and Wedged and Built To Last
This week, a subscriber requested video. If you ever watched my series on Building A New Workshop you'll probably remember the gate of many talents! The gate was used for a number of tasks and survived everything thrown at it. A subscriber asked if I could make a video on how I built the gate.
It's been many years since I built my gates, so it took a bit of thought remembering how I built them...but after a bit of hard thinking...I managed to put together this short video of building a really solid gate using mortise and tenon joinery and in addition, repairing and reusing one of the gates that survived the workshop build.
I have a few gates like this and one of them is over 20 years old and still going strong. So, whilst I realise people may have alternative ways or even better ways of constructing a gate, this has worked well for me in the past and I'm more than happy with its construction. Fingers crossed...this gate will last another 20 plus years! :-) This is also the final piece of repairs after the damaged caused by building my new workshop, so it's all sort of finished now :-)
Special thanks to my Patrons David Shrive, Charles France, Mad Hamish, Chris Gilboy, Barbara Joseph and all of my other Patrons.
