The AY-3-8910/YM2149 (derivative) is a 3 channel programmable sound generator designed by General Instrument (GI) in 1978.

It formed part of the audio subsystem for the ZX spectrum and various other 8-bit microcomputers of the era.

The standard format used to store and replay AY/YM music is known as SNDH (.snd) (http://sndh.atari.org)
