When the Chinese Communist Party can mass-produce political messaging, flood platforms with coordinated narratives, and use AI to scale influence faster and cheaper, it can distort public debate inside America without firing a single shot. This targets trust, social cohesion, and the ability of Americans to tell authentic speech from foreign manipulation.

The pattern is also broader than one company’s report. Graphika reported on a Chinese influence operation that tried to stir political anger in Western countries, including calls tied to foreign protest narratives, showing how these campaigns increasingly aim to exploit local tensions rather than just praise Beijing.

This is why China’s AI-enabled propaganda should be treated as a national security problem, not just a content moderation problem. If Beijing can weaponize generative AI and social media matrices to manipulate what Americans see, believe, and argue about, then America’s openness itself becomes the target.
