Platinum Heroes (Re-Imagined) by Bruce Stephen Foster 2020

The story behind Platinum Heroes

It was the winter of 1975 and I was in a laundromat in Long Branch, N.J. waiting for my clothes to dry. The premise for this song and the melody of the chorus, along with the title, all struck me simultaneously. I scrawled down the lyrics on a box of Tide soap with a ballpoint pen and then finished up the first draft later at home.

Less than a year later I was signed as an artist to a record label, and Platinum Heroes was released as a single.

I am writing this on John Lennon’s 80th birthday in the great beyond. I remember with joy and tears that he liked my song and gave my producer, Jimmy Ienner, his blessing for me to recreate 28 Beatles guitar riffs in between the verses of my otherwise original song.

Long live Saint John! May his legacy live on. Live long.

Lyrics - Written by Bruce Stephen Foster

I remember 1964, there was nothing playing on the radio
The scene was folky, rock’n roll was hokey
It seems the world was at an all time low
Then I saw them singing on the TV.
Mop tops shoutin’ rock, Mersey beat and harmony

Platinum Heroes, better than gold.
Loved by the world for the records they sold
Bigger than legends, greater than d/reams
Hiding in jets and black limousines
I hear the music, I hear the screams, Oh yeah!

By ’66 all the world let its hair grow
I was there at Shea for their last show
The crowd was screaming, lonely hearts were dreaming
I hid the tears as they turned to go
Then the Sergeant snapped us to attention
Stood us on our feet and gave us new direction

Platinum Heroes, better than gold.
Loved by the world for the records they sold
Bigger than legends, greater than dreams
Hiding in jets and black limousines
I hear the music, I hear the screams, Oh yeah!

We dug for clues back in 1970
They crossed the road but we just wouldn’t let them be
We saw the hangman, priest and the prisoner
Followed close by the grave digger
Dropping tabs and playing back hidden incantations
Revelations number 9 and counting black carnations

Platinum Heroes, better than gold.
Loved by the world for the records they sold
Bigger than legends, greater than dreams
Hiding in jets and black limousines
I hear the music, I hear the Screams, Oh yeah!
Why must you say bye bye bye, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 all good children go to heaven

Platinum Heroes, better than gold
Loved by the world for the records they sold
Bigger than legends, greater than dreams
Hiding in jets and black limousines
I hear the music, I hear the screams
