Spinner Supercut
I threw this together mainly because I love flying cars (shocking!) and Blade Runner proposes an idea on that concept that is very idiosincratic: the Spinner has doors like a car (a lambo no less!) but at the same time it has a dashboard that is unlike a car or an aircraft, it is it's own self, it has windows on the floor to assist on take off and landing, it has lights all around, but they are not aircraft-style lights, they are closer to police car lights (obviously being a police car), it's just that it incorporates lights on the bottom, it sounds like an aircraft when taking off but in the air, it has its own sound.
Syd Mead did an incredible job designing the Spinner to his own taste, if you compare the Spinner to its closest relative: the DeLorean Time Machine (or SHIELD's Lola), both are still different yet similar as both are more car like than aircraft. Flying cars in Star Wars are closer to regular cars without wheels, or completely their own thing (Luke's landspeeder?) the Spinner is not on that league. New movies choose to go more like cars that magically float like in the "Fifth Element", but the Spinner remains as the definitive take on the word.
For the record, I know there are repeated sequences on the video, it is on purpose (and from 2 different versions of the movie), and I know about the end of the video, that is a homage to Syd and his fantastic design. This is for educational purposes only: to learn on the lighting style, production design process and technology exploration on the Flying Car.
