Hardcore Hardtail Grouptest | Mountain Bike Rider
So what is the best British hardtail? Still Orange Crush? Or Nukeproof Scout? What about Whyte 905? | Click here to subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/MBRmagazine?sub_confirmation=1
Here in the UK we’re a bit, well, quirky. We love to drink hot water infused with dried leaves. We love to moan about the weather. And we love to razz about in the woods on hardcore hardtails. So we’ve gathered together three of the latest models, all from British brands, to find out which offers the most fun.
First off we have the Nukeproof Scout.
It’s a model that started life as a four-cross bike, so it should be a ninja on jumpy trails, but it’s also been refined for 2018 with extra length and a more compliant back end.
Furthermore, it gets chunky 2.6in tyres to increase comfort and grip.
We can’t mention the hardcore hardtail without talking about Whyte, and for 2018 the legendary 905 goes one step further than Nukeproof with its big volume 2.8in tyres.
And last but no means least we have the Orange Crush.
It’s a bike that won this test two years ago, and sticks with this successful formula for 2018, with regular 2.3in tyres even though the frame has plenty of room for wider versions.
Those are our three contenders; time to see how all they stack up.
