Jesus’ Resurrection Was Not His Soul Departing His Body and Becoming Divine After Death
Some skeptics might say that the early Christians invented the myth of Jesus’s resurrection as a way of matching or countering the Roman mythologies of a Caesar becoming divine after death. But that’s not what the descriptions of Jesus after the resurrection look like. Recognizing this makes a massive difference for Christian hope. In raising Jesus from the dead, God is not saying, “Hang there...one day you’ll fly away.” The resurrection of Jesus is an announcement that even if the worst happens, God will raise us from the dead.
