Cessna 172N Flips on Landing at Sedona Airport

On March 29, 2020 at approximately 11:49 AM local time, a Cessna 172N Skyhawk, N172FG, landed, ground looped, experienced a nose gear collapse, and then flipped over at Sedona Airport, Yavapai County, Arizona. The pilot and one passenger were not injured. The aircraft was owned by Fly 172N LLC and operated by Fox Aviation, which conveniently also owns an aircraft recovery company. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed.

A witness report, lightly edited for clarity: "I saw the plane turning base and wondered why the pilot chose Runway 21, so I checked the windsock, and it seemed to be 3/4 full from ~210 degrees. It seemed to make sense, so I turned toward the FBO. Then I heard the crashing sound. I ran toward the plane and saw it upside down with people coming out, so I turned back."

The pilot reported "Landed RY21, strong crosswind came across the tail, pushing the aircraft to the left. Unable to correct the aircraft. Went off the runway and into the dirt. The dirt was so soft. The nose wheel dug into the dirt and the aircraft flipped on its back. Pilot and passenger both uninjured."
