Wide Open Throttle On Cummins Marine 6BT 180HP CPL742
Full throttle at 10:47 and 12:38.
Just finished doing a refresh on this 1986 Cummins 6BT 210HP marine engine for use in a 28 foot boat. Engine was leaking coolant into the sump via a cracked head and rusted out freeze plugs. I worked on the engine from July 2016 until January 2017. Tested in this video and it reaches 2600 RPMS with no signs over overheat. This is the only full throttle test I plan on doing to check for problems. I have probably ran it 10 times at various RPMs on a pallet and it has always sounded good and seemed reliable. I don't want to run it too much with no load so that the rings can seat properly. After this video, I think it is ready to go in the boat.
The VDO tach shows about 20% less than the actual RPM's. Engine has new head, new Lucas injectors, resealed CAV pump, resurfaced exhaust manifold and turbo, pressure tested and cleaned oil cooler, new alternator, new cooling hoses, new fittings are all upgraded from 3/4 to 1" NPT. New expansion tank bracket, cleaned/serviced heat exchanger, new coolant pump, new thermostat, new turbo drain pipe, new tappet cover, new damper plate, new oil pressure sensor, new temp sensor, new belt, new lift pump, new paint job, removed extra crank pulley, new freeze plugs, etc. I moved turbo to a high mount to simplify the exhaust layout in the boat and put the turbo higher above the waterline. I measured the lower bearings with a plastiguage and the cylinders with a dial bore indicator gauge. All within spec. I had previously warmed the engine up for 15 minutes before this video. At idle, oil pressure is 57PSI cold and 30PSI hot. Spec is 10PSI so looking good there. Temps are looking good all around with an IR gun. Going to replace all the filters with Fleetguards and get a new belt tensioner. There is also a small drip from the CAV pump that I need to figure out.
