Doreen Wells was a ballerina with Sadler’s Wells Theatre Ballet,
Sadler’s Wells Ballet and The Royal Ballet from 1955 -74.

She toured extensively, both nationally and
Internationally, from Bournemouth to Baalbek

Her repertoire ranged from the classics
to ballets by the choreographers of the day

She created the title role in Nureyev’s
Raymonda, in 1964, in Spoleto

After retiring as classical ballerina, she starred in
On Your Toes, Charlie Girl and 42nd Street

Her stage partners included Rudolf Nureyev, David Wall,
Donald MacLeary, Christopher Gable, Patrice Bart…

She was born in Walthamstow on 25 June 1937
