The most polluted generation | Penelope Jagessar Chaffer | TEDxBrussels

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The Most Polluted Generation

Penelope Jagessar Chaffer is a multi award winning filmmaker and artist, writer, feminist, children’s environmental health advocate and global environmentalist.

The first black, female director to be nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award, she is the creator of Toxic Baby, the documentary that looks at how toxic chemicals in our environment affect the health and development of babies and children, which is being developed as the first ever interactive documentary app for the iPad.

Starting her career at the BBC, Penelope has been nominated for two British Academy Awards, a Royal Television Society Award and a British Documentary Award. A documentary auteur, her films display a singularly unique perspective on the world we live in with The Observer (UK) newspaper calling her work “a joy to watch.”

She has worked at the forefront of digital, interactive content, directing several well received pieces for BBC Interactive including Shakespeare’s Stories, an innovative drama/ documentary hybrid of Shakespeare’s plays which was nominated for a British Academy Award.

Penelope has been named one of the top 100 Green Online Influencers and has been awarded the “Mom On A Mission” award by Healthy Child, Healthy World, the non profit named by Vanity Fair magazine as one of Mrs. Michelle Obama’s two favorite charity organizations.

Penelope’s TED talk with Professor Tyrone Hayes on the effects of toxic chemicals on babies and children has been viewed over 300,000 times. A mother of two, she lives in Brooklyn, New York.
