Sean MacDermott Easter 1916 Leader

Sean McDermott (Seán Mac Diarmada) was one of the key organisers and driving forces behind the Easter Rising of 1916, a committed Irish republican whose determination helped turn revolutionary intent into action. A leading member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, he worked tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate the rebellion, bringing together disparate nationalist elements in pursuit of independence. Despite suffering from polio and relying on a walking stick, his resolve never wavered. Following the surrender, he was court-martialled and executed in Kilmainham Gaol, his death cementing his place as one of the central figures in Ireland’s struggle for freedom.
