AI Background Remover App with Next.js 15, TypeScript & remove.bg API
In this video, I built a Background Remover Web App using Next.js 15 and TypeScript, powered by the remove.bg API.
Unlike basic frontend-only projects, this one required handling file uploads, server-side API communication, and secure environment variables. The goal was to build a production-ready image processing app — not just a UI demo.
Users can upload an image, the app sends it to the remove.bg service, and returns a processed image with the background removed — ready to download.
Key Features:
Upload an image directly from the browser
AI-powered background removal
Download the processed PNG image
Clean and responsive UI
Optimized performance with Next.js
Tech Stack:
Next.js 15 – App Router & server-side logic
TypeScript – Type safety and maintainability
remove.bg (NPM package) – AI background removal
Tailwind CSS – Clean UI styling
Vercel – Deployment and hosting

Github - https://github.com/surajprojects/bg-remover
What I focused on:
Handling file uploads properly
Calling third-party APIs securely
Managing environment variables
Separating client and server responsibilities
Building something closer to a SaaS-style utility app
This project is part of my build-in-public journey, where I share real-world builds, architecture decisions, and practical system thinking as a full-stack developer.
If you're interested in modern full-stack development with Next.js and building production-ready tools, this one’s for you.
