Nobody knows who got the very first tattoo.

But think about how insane the idea is.

At some point in history, someone looked at a sharp object and thought:

“What if I stabbed myself thousands of times… but in a pattern?”

And somehow that idea survived for thousands of years.

The oldest known tattoos belong to Ötzi the Iceman, a man who lived over 5,000 years ago and had more than 60 tattoos on his body.

But tattooing is even older than that.

Ancient Egyptians, Polynesians, and countless other cultures were tattooing people long before modern tattoo shops existed.

Back then there were no tattoo machines, no numbing cream, and no clean studios.

Just sharp tools, soot, pain, and commitment.

So who was the first person to get a tattoo?

We’ll probably never know.

But somewhere in prehistory, one human saw another covered in permanent drawings and thought:

“Yeah. I want that too.”
