Peter Mandelson FAILED security vetting - despite Keir Starmer’s claim ‘due process was followed’

Peter Mandelson failed his security vetting but the decision was overruled by the Foreign Office to pave the way for this appointment as ambassador to the US.

The disgraced peer, who was arrested earlier this year on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, was at first denied clearance in late January 2025.

Security officials conducted developed vetting process against Mandelson, a highly confidential clearance check, to which he initially failed, reports the Guardian.

Sir Keir Starmer then declared Lord Mandelson's appointment as the UK's ambassador to the US, which left the Foreign Office in a precarious position.

The Government department then exercised a rarely used power to undermine the recommendation from the security services on the vetting failure.

Despite a wave of public criticism over the appointment due to the disgraced peer's relationship with now-dead paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein, this the first reporting on the alleged failed vetting.

GB News has approached No10, the Foreign Office and Lord Mandelson for comment on the matter.
